Fulton, Mississippi -- 18 Year old Constance McMillan wanted to attend her prom at Itawamba County Agricultural High School dressed in a tux and bring a female with her as her date. The school had reportedly issued a memo prohibiting same-sex dates, and then canceled the prom after the student asked to attend with her girlfriend.
McMillan said she believed the decision to then cancel the prom was in retaliation for her request to bring her girlfriend to the event and to wear a tuxedo. According to the report, the ACLU is backing the student's case, after the school board told her that "she and her partner would not be allowed to arrive at the event together nor would she be allowed to wear a tuxedo".
"She also said that when she asked a teacher about the school's ban on same-sex dates at the prom, she was told she had to remember where she was."
Had to remember where she was? Enough, already! LWOH is backing her case, too.
