What's Wrong with Mississippi?

(Very Special Thanks to Mr. Weird)

Classroom Notes

Earlier this year, LWOH reported here and here about Constance McMillan, the eighteen year old Mississippi high school student who courageously fought her school's ban on same-sex prom attendance. This week, Think Progress reports here that a  Mississippi public school has issued a memo that "children running for certain class officer posts must meet a specific race requirement: to be president - the child must be white".

TP includes a school memo reportedly obtained by MixedandHappy and The Smoking Gun that was allegedly passed out to every 6th, 7th, and 8th grader to inform them of the breakdown.

If my child came home from school with this thing, (Yank that I am) I MIGHT have thought the above memo was some April Fools-ish prank of the Onion variety and would wonder all about it.

One commenter cites the whole marrying your sister/brother cousin practice below:

These are the kind of things that happen in a state after decades of inbreeding caused by its “you can’t marry anyone other than a sibling or first cousin” law. It worked well for limiting mixed marriages but it really thinned out the gene pool.”

It's Not the Economy, Stupid. Or the Mosque. Or Gender. Or Race. Or Sexual Identity. It's YOUR JOB.

Party on, plebes!
