This is one of the best essays I have read, and with such poetry and music.
Thank you for being a voice in this stupid wilderness where most of us can't make it here anymore.
RCAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22563831.post-72004727844661659832008-07-08T14:13:00.000-07:002008-07-08T14:13:00.000-07:00All kinds of motivations but the problem is the la...All kinds of motivations but the problem is the lack of emphasis on quality coming down from the top. The game is about cramming too many dubiously skilled, cheap workers who will work for peanuts into cubes to do the work that one or two developers could do.2Truthyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06621258620190540140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22563831.post-90127601990088445472008-07-06T18:48:00.000-07:002008-07-06T18:48:00.000-07:002truthy, one other reason for the vp you mention ...2truthy, one other reason for the vp you mention is hiring high school graduates may be an attempt to "prove" that without more H-1b visas, the software engineering department "will suffer."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22563831.post-28051081933626775762008-07-05T12:49:00.000-07:002008-07-05T12:49:00.000-07:00Thnx Carrie. I know someone working under those very conditions right now: the heavily backed vc startup is actually down to hiring (I wish I were kidding) HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES with a little IT/QA experience and sticking them in the SW development departments. Guess what kind of management does that? Insecure "v.p.'s" of engineering who get points from the CEO and the Board to fan out the ops budget by getting "more burnt fries". Who gives a shit about quality? For a start up to show "progress", you don't need "quality" software programmers to develop instant messaging sw. You need a spreadsheet that shows lots of bodies (cheap bodies so the boss gets to profit) are needed in order to justify continued rounds of funding for the STUPORWARE (2T tm)all of that will make our society strong and great and civil once again.

Check out the preface sentence to these ominous points:

"In order to uncover new recruits — and not just the very talented people, but the RIGHT PEOPLE"...2Truthyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06621258620190540140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22563831.post-39192877361871372442008-07-05T12:23:00.000-07:002008-07-05T12:23:00.000-07:00I thought you might find this article interesting....I thought you might find this article interesting.

http://gigaom.com/2008/07/05/meebos-jen-how-to-find-hard-to-find-talent/

Point #5 was particularly informative.Citizen Carriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12481323943813270047noreply@blogger.com
