Times Square Bomber Was an H-1B Visa Holder

Homeland InSecurity: Who is Protecting America's Middle Class?

Breaking News

NEW YORK --  The Washington Post is reporting that the suspect in the Times Square bombing attempt, Mr. Shahzad, initially lived in the United States under H1-B and F-1 visas designed to facilitate his education and give him employment.

In December 1998, he was granted an F-1 student visa. Immigration officials noted then that there was "no derogatory information" on Mr. Shahzad in any database, a law enforcement official said.

He first attended Southeastern University in Washington, D.C., a small school that lost its accreditation last year. In 2000, Mr. Shahzad transferred to the University of Bridgeport. In April 2002, he was granted an H1-B visa for skilled workers; he stayed in the U.S. for three years on that visa, gaining his M.B.A. It is not clear what company sponsored the visa, which is used to attract workers with a "specialty occupation," such as information technology.

Who - WHO in our government will FINALLY stop this and stand up for and protect American citizens?

Party on, plebes!

    2002 – Issued H-1B visa
Shahzad was sponsored by Elizabeth Arden to work in a low level accounting job under the H-1B visa program.

This would seem to support the argument that the visa program brings in primarily ordinary workers, not the 'best and the brightest' as its defenders claim.

  3. H-1B as a remedy for labor shortages and as a means of hiring "the best and the brightest" from around the world (which I

strongly support), the vast majority are ordinary people doing ordinary work. Instead of being about talent, H-1B is about cheap labor.

H-1B visa holders may only work for sponsoring employers after approval by the Departments of Labor and Homeland Security.

Although most of the non-compliant H-1B workers had posted wages from employers in fields associated with technical or

specialty occupations, the report noted that one H-1B worker had earnings from a restaurant and janitorial service.

    Thank's
    and
