Does Bill Gates Own Washington?

Does Bill Gates Own Washington?

“The more laws and order are made prominent,
the more thieves and robbers there will be.”
-Lao-Tzu (Sixth Century B.C.)

The $46.5 Billion Dollar Tech Monopoly Man, Bill Gates, is back in Washington, DC today to testify before a Senate committee about the American Great Skilled Labor Shortage Myth. Gates has set the trend for high technology corporations to outsource millions of our white collar, professional jobs to India. Here in Silicon Valley, the tech lobby TechNet (with the support of high profile legislators such as Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, Diane Feinstein and Arnold Schwarzenegger) all aggressively support the continued increase in importing H1Bs to replace our educated, upwardly mobile middle class neighbors with cheaper, less experienced foreign labor. When it comes to looking over your shoulder to see what the other guy is doing on his race to the bottom, Silicon Valley, with its “You and who’s army? TechNet”, looks no further than to Bill Gates or John Chambers, CEO of Cisco, to follow their lead to the trough.

Today, Gates will make the case that the United States cannot be ‘competitive’ without an unlimited increase in the yearly H-1B cap, more employment based green cards, and easier ways for foreign students to stay in the U.S. and take jobs from the millions of professionals and students currently working in our economy or recently graduated and about to build their careers. Don't be surprised to read the MSM account to request for the Skil bill to be resurrected
http://tootruthy.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html and expect to read the phrase "American competitiveness” a lot.

Last year Gates went to Washington DC twice but failed to win an H-1B increase, but this time, the quiet, stealth maneuvering of TechNet and despite the new Democratic controlled Congress, (Nancy Pelosi is a supporter), removal of the H1B visa cap would be an unprecedented move in allowing an unlimited, unmonitored flood of foreign labor to further drive down wages and decrease or eliminate health care for our middle class labor force.

Where there’s fundraising, there’s trouble. Why is it that very little has been written in the press about the impending Gates trip to DC? And like many corporate welfare sponsored back-room deals that screw the public, little is known about who will be at the hearing and whether any Democratic legislators will rebut Gates.

Whether it’s House Ways and Means Chairman Charles B. Rangel (D-N.Y.) and Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) – both who planned a rare and expensive joint fundraising reception in New York last weekend at the Upper East Side home of PR executive Howard Rubenstein, MSM input and output on the SKIL Bill (H1B cap removal) and Fast Track are conspicuously absent from the consumption for the unwashed masses.

According to the Washington Post, The Democrats' push will culminate late this month when “Pelosi and 10 of her chairmen huddle with donors at the Northern Virginia home of shopping-center developer Albert J. Dwoskin for an event to benefit the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. The asking price for the March 21 dinner is $28,500 per couple, making it one of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's highest-dollar fundraisers since new campaign finance limits were enacted in 2002.”
Yes, we shouted and just said “NO” when it came to throwing the Republican bums out and taking over Congress, with Captain Nancy Pelosi at the helm. But will the “Good Ship Democratic House” be taken over without a fight by the pillaging Pirates of Silicon Valley once again?

Can the Progressive movement at the netroots finally recognize that this issue – the wholesale sell out of our white collar, professional middle class jobs – is what was global warming thirty years ago, when people laughed at Al Gore about global warming or when your neighbors snickered when you actually recycled your garbage?

Above all, WHO – who in our culturally progressive, Democratic or Independent arena has the guts to stand up to these hubris stuffed, smug and greedy “corporate leaders” and say ‘enough’? I believe that it is the cultural elites in our society who have the greatest influence on shaping positive change. It is, after all, not the politicians who ultimately drive us down but the collective zeitgeist, groupthink that is created out of the corrupt manipulations of the few to fashion mass opinion taken straight from the sociopaths “how to screw your neighbor” playbook.

As Oscar Wilde said, “Those who try to lead the people can only do so by following the mob.”

Mob or cult mentality... It may well be that the aroma of the trough is so alluring and irresistible to the politically and culturally elitist few who simply can’t discern an arrogant overstuffed frat boy executive with a blackberry from a humble, educated and innovative citizen. But one thing is certain: no effective or meaningful legislation by our government can materialize without the very basic and instinctual common glue of conscience known to human civilization: Civility.
